Frequently asked questions
Why did my food get a low grade?
KibbleGrade scores a food on the quality of its ingredients and nutrition panel — not on the brand, the price, or the marketing on the front of the bag. Words like “premium,” “natural,” or “vet recommended” don't move the grade at all.
A low grade usually reflects things like vague or low-quality protein sources (e.g. “meat by-product” instead of a named meat), a lot of cheap fillers, or additives and ingredients that are commonly flagged as controversial. Open the ingredient breakdown for that scan to see exactly which items pulled the score down and why.
Grades are one input to help you compare options — not a verdict on whether a specific food is right for your specific pet. See the vet question below.
The label won't scan — what do I do?
Almost every failed scan comes down to the photo. Try these:
- Photograph the ingredients list (the small print), not just the front of the package.
- Use good, even lighting and avoid glare or shadows across the text.
- Flatten the packaging so the words aren't curved or wrinkled.
- Hold steady and let the camera focus — blurry text is the most common culprit.
- Fill the frame with the ingredient panel so the text is large and sharp.
If the scan still misreads the text, retake the photo or type the ingredients in manually. If a specific label consistently fails, email us the photo (see above) and we'll take a look.
How do you work out how much to feed my pet?
Feeding targets are starting estimates based on typical energy needs. We estimate your pet's resting energy requirement from their weight and then adjust for life stage and activity to suggest a daily amount.
These are estimates, not prescriptions. Real pets vary a lot — two dogs of the same weight can need noticeably different amounts. Use the number as a starting point, watch your pet's body condition and weight over the following weeks, and adjust.
For puppies, kittens, pregnant or nursing pets, seniors, or any pet with a medical condition, confirm the right amount with your veterinarian before relying on an estimate.
Is KibbleGrade a substitute for a vet?
No. KibbleGrade is an information and education tool, not veterinary advice. It can't examine your pet, diagnose a condition, or account for your pet's full medical history.
Always consult a licensed veterinarian for decisions about your pet's diet, weight, and health — especially for puppies, kittens, seniors, and pets with medical conditions. If your pet may have eaten something harmful or is unwell, contact your vet or an emergency animal hospital right away.
How do I cancel my subscription?
KibbleGrade subscriptions are billed and managed by Google Play, so you cancel there — we can't cancel a Google Play subscription on your behalf.
On your Android device: open the Google Play Store → tap your profile icon → Payments & subscriptions → Subscriptions → select KibbleGrade → Cancel subscription.
Canceling stops future renewals. You keep access until the end of the period you've already paid for. See our Terms of Service for billing, auto-renewal, and refund details.
How do I delete my account?
You can permanently delete your account and all associated data at any time. The fastest way is in the app: Profile / Settings → Delete Account.
If you've already uninstalled the app, you can request deletion from our account deletion page.
